Aid Jamaica

Jamaican Red Cross Director General Yvonne Clarke has been called a "selfless and devoted humanitarian" by Jamaica's Gleaner Newspaper. She is on the ground in Jamaica working to disseminate aid through the organization.
During her more than fifty years with the Jamaican Red Cross -- which is a separate entity from the American Red Cross -- she has reunited families after disasters, helped them rebuild, doled out millions for individuals to obtain groceries and needed supplies, and organized crucial emergency response medical care. She is also a family friend.
Please note that the Jamaica Red Cross is an independent Jamaican charity that branched off from the British Red Cross in 1964. It is NOT part of the American Red Cross, which lacks the same longstanding ties to the community and, in cases like Haiti's 2010 earthquake, had trouble disseminating funds to the right people, according to NPR and The Washington Post. Unfortunately donations to foreign entities like the Jamaica Red Cross are not tax deductible.
